When I originally started on my goals to do 25 things while I was still 25 I thought it would be awesome to give myself a fuller more experince-ful life. What I really didn’t realise is that I actually do have a pretty good life as is without making silly commitments for myself.
I am unlike people who long-term goal lists actually are counter productive for me. I shut down and I generally never complete it. Case and point this list. But I was still able to complete some. So now we go line by line on the eve of my 26th birthday and see what actually got done.
Ahh vacation. Are you jealous of these vacation posts yet? Yes? Well you’re in luck. This is going to be the last one for a while that dosent involve some family event.

Back at the end of May, I happily volunteered to move my best friend Brandon back to Rochester from Boston for his summer internship. Primarily because it ticked off another one of my 25 while 25.
Jess and I headed out over memorial day weekend and even though we both had been to Boston before we got to check out some stuff we never got to before. Brandon was working on a law paper and Jesse went to go work at the local Apple store for a new perspective so it left me some relaxation time, because after all it was my first vacation since November.
Jess and I got some touristy stuff in at Faneuil Hall, saw some street performers and did some window shopping. I was surprisingly warm for Boston in May so we welcomed the warmth rather than the rain of Rochester.
We ate a lot of good surprisingly gluten-free food. You know Jess is a happy guy when there are a lot of gluten-free options for him to choose from. My favorite was the BeeHive. The lot of us went there for Saturday brunch, and let me tell you it was the best french toast I have ever had. of course it was crazy expensive but I loved it. Nothing like a clandestine non-tourist affair.
We spent the rest of that day stumbling around Boston making stops at Cafeteria for some sangria, then to Harpoon for the brewery tour, and finally Max Bernner’s for some chocolate infused food and cocktails.
Our last day before we headed out Jesse and I made a trip to Ikea which for us is a down right luxury. We managed to find the perfect dresser and night stands to match. I know its “cheap” furniture but there really isnt an affordable modern option in Rochester.
All in all it was a great trip and I always enjoy my time in Boston and I cant wait to make it back.
Panicked as I was I finally got my wisdom teeth out. When I was 18 I did have an appointment to get them out and I made it all the way into the office, had a panic attack, and walked out. I never gained back the confidence to get it done but after a few bouts with infection and excruciating pain, it was time.
I made my way to Dr. Richard Edwards office early Thursday morning so early I beat Dr. Edwards to the office. Thankfully I had Jesse there to distract me from my needle phobia. After I was reassured that he has done this before him and his nurse weren’t able to find a vein they had to poke a second time into my hand and we were underway!
“It takes 17 seconds from it to go from your hand to your brain.”
“Ok” and I was out, and so was Jesse.
I woke up didn’t feel or remember a thing. The nurse gave me a rose and my teeth. No YouTube worthy drug high, just me sitting in recovery wondering why I was waiting there so long, and why she gave me my teeth back.
Jess had already picked up my antibiotic and Vicodin! We went to my mom’s and I fell asleep for hours.
Other than a slight lisp for the first three days and figuring out my cleaning regimen, I have no idea why I waited so long. If there is anyone who hasn’t done it yet, just do it and don’t wait until your 25.
Check that off the list!
So one month into my 25 while 25 and I am already off to a great start.
Oh I’m sorry did you not hear the sarcasm? I am already behind on my goals. But c’est la vie, I am amending to do better now.
So now onto the explanations/excuses.
1. Work-We are down two people of our total staff of 10. Makes a huge difference when you also have two other staff members on vacation. Hello 6 day work week.
2. Computer-Jess and I share his computer so if someone wants to do something the other is stuck on the phone, and since Jess is writing a treatment for a movie I havent gotten too much time.
3. I’m lazy-Granted this is why I wanted to start the list and what I should have put on as goal number one should have been be less lazy! Yea I will get to that tomorrow
On the upside a few great things have happened!
-My best girlfriend Emily Shearing graduated from her first masters program and will be starting her photography program soon!
-I am crossing a goal off my list and heading to boston to go pick up my best friend Brandon from law school so he can spend the summer working back here at home. This will be the first summer in a long time that he has been home and I couldn’t be more thrilled. This however might be the last care free summer we have as young adults. I hope we can make the best of it.
-My Mom is traveling to visit my sister. Why is this great for me? We’ll my mom and sister are super important to me and while I can’t be there I am really happy to see them able to spend some time together.
So all in all good things are going on even if I haven’t lived up to my personal goals yet. 11 months to go.
Today is my 25th birthday.
I am in my mid-twenties.
This is probably my biggest birthday that I can remember. Most of my birthdays have passed by uneventful. I worked even last year. The ladies from work got me cookie cupcakes.
This year I am determined this year matter. I feel like I am reaching the age that I am constantly questioning, am I too old for this? Almost always I am not. But there are some things I want to do before that question seems to get a yes answer more than a no.
I have made a list of 25 things to do while I’m 25. Most are things I have been putting off, some are silly, some are necessary, and some are just me encouraging myself to get something done!
I hope my tiny sum of readers can support me through my year-long quest and maybe come up with some other suggestions that I should do to make 25 matter.
